Older Americans Month 2014: Ways to raise your seat

Happy Older Americans Month! This month, formerly called Senior Citizens Month, is a time set aside in our nation to remember the contributions of our elders and rededicate ourselves to their health and safety.

Safe today. Healthy tomorrow.

This year, 2014, the theme for Older Americans Month is Safe today. Healthy tomorrow. The theme is meant to highlight the high risk of unintentional injury that older Americans face.

Our parents and grandparents have gone through hard work to rear us, to help us pursue an education, and often to fight for our freedoms overseas. Let’s face it. These contributions have affected them physically, resulting often in arthritis and other conditions. We owe it to them to ensure their safety against accidents and injuries.

Avoid sitting, standing injuries

One area where incidents like falling occur often is the transition between sitting and standing. If you or a loved one have arthritis, you have probably experienced the problem of sinking into a chair or sofa and not being able to get back up. The solution is to figure out ways to raise your seat. Having a higher seat takes away a lot of stress and fall risk when going between sitting and standing.

Furniture Risers

Furniture Risers

Our Furniture Risers can be placed under the legs of your existing furniture. These non-skid risers hold furniture legs firmly and are  made with heavy-duty plastic with a strong ribbed construction.

Recliner Riser

Recliner Riser

In addition to the Furniture Risers, which help with sofas, love seats and chairs, we also sell the Recliner Riser. The Recliner Riser doesn’t raise your recliner. It also prevents the forward tilt of the recliner, which can be dangerous when standing for those with arthritis or general weakness.

Hip Chair

Hip Chair

For senior citizens with hip pain or those who are recovering from a hip operation, it may be necessary to use a hip chair. Our Hip Chair, which stands at 25 or 25.75 inches, is made of blow-molded plastic with a textured finish. It can be used in the shower, bathroom and kitchen when you are preparing food.

We hope our products will help the older Americans we serve stay safe today and healthy tomorrow!
